Modric became the oldest assist provider in World Cup history in the match against Ghana.

Luka Modric wrote his name in the history books during Croatia’s 2-1 win over Ghana in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026 on June 27. The AC Milan midfielder set up Nikola Vlasic’s late goal, which proved to be the winner, becoming the oldest player to provide an assist in the quadrennial tournament’s history.

After a really slow start, Croatia took the lead in the 31st minute, with Petar Sucic finding the back of the net. Derrick Luckassen equalised in the 73rd minute, but Nikola Vlasic headed in the winner in the 93rd minute.

The winning goal came from a corner. Modric floated a ball towards the middle, where it was met by Vlasic. The Torino attacker headed it past Benjamin Asare, finding the bottom corner. The result meant that the Vatreni qualified for the Round of 32, finishing second in the final Group L standings.
