Top 10 oldest players at FIFA World Cup 2026 ft. Neuer, Ronaldo & Modric

Only seven players above 40 will be playing in the competition.

The official squad lists of all nations for the FIFA World Cup 2026, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, were released by FIFA on Wednesday.

At the World Cup, seven players will be over 40. This time, 43-year-old Scotland custodian Craig Gordon will be the oldest player. He will become the second-oldest player to attend a World Cup, after Egyptian custodian Essam El Hadary, who was 45 at Russia 2018.

10. Hernán Galíndez – Ecuador (39 years & 73 days)

Hernán Galíndez, the goalkeeper for Ecuador, is among the oldest players competing in the 2026 edition of the competition, at age 39. He is an important veteran for the Ecuadorian national team. Despite being born in Argentina, he chose to represent Ecuador.

Galíndez is one of the top 10 oldest players in the competition.

9. Yuto Nagatomo – Japan (39 years & 272 days)

Yuto Nagatomo is among the oldest players in the World Cup 2026, making him one of the oldest competitors. The renowned Japanese defender, who is 39 years and 272 days old, created amazing history by earning a spot in his fifth consecutive FIFA World Cup.

His selection, which dates back to the 2010 tournament in South Africa, makes him the first Japanese player to ever reach this milestone.

8. Fernando Muslera – Uruguay (39 years & 360 days)

Fernando Muslera, a goalie for Uruguay, is among the oldest participants in the event at 39 years and 360 days. He is set to feature in his fifth World Cup (having previously participated in 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022). His official inclusion in Marcelo Bielsa’s team represents an amazing milestone.

7. Vozinha – Cabo Verde (40 years & 8 days)

Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha is among the oldest players competing in the 2026 World Cup. On June 3, he turned 40, making him the seventh-oldest competitor who is over 40 in the competition.

6. Manuel Neuer – Germany (40 years & 76 days)

Manuel Neuer is the most recent of several players 40 years of age or older to be playing in this summer’s competition. He has participated in four World Cups. Manuel Neuer is one of the oldest players at the 2026 World Cup at 40 years old.

He will be participating in his fifth World Cup competition after reversing his international retirement to represent Germany. Neuer is a member of the tournament’s privileged “40-and-over club” this summer.

5. Edin Dzeko – Bosnia and Herzegovina (40 years & 86 days)

The Mexican stalwart, Guillermo Ochoa, earned his first cap in a friendly match against Hungary at the age of 20. He will now be a member of six FIFA World Cup squads. Ochoa’s World Cup career started when he was called up for Mexico’s roster in the 2006 World Cup.

He will be one of the oldest goalkeepers in the game. Ochoa will join Lionel Messi and Ronaldo as the only players set to feature in the sixth World Cup.

At 41, Cristiano Ronaldo will be among the oldest players competing at the World Cup. The Portuguese sensation is still leading his national squad and defying time.

Moreover, he is set to play in his sixth World Cup, an incredible feat. A record that would solidify his reputation as one of the all-time great football players.

1. Craig Gordon – Scotland (43 years & 162 days)

Craig Gordon, a 43-year-old custodian for Scotland, is by far the oldest player to be included in a final squad of Scotland. The Hearts’ goalkeeper would become the second-oldest player in World Cup history if he plays in Scotland’s first World Cup match in 28 years.
