Of course, I would: Ole Gunnar Solskjær on managing Manchester United again
The Norwegian would be keen on taking the Red Devils job once again.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær says he will be open to taking the Manchester United job if the chance arises. The former United player departed the club as a coach in 2021 after his three years at the helm.
Ralf Rangnick replaced him as interim coach of the club before Erik ten Hag was appointed as the manager. However, things have remained the same ever since the Norwegian manager left barring the 2022-23 season where United finished in the top four and won the Carabao Cup under the Dutch manager.
In the 2023-24 season United endured one of the poorest seasons. They were eliminated from the Champions League in the group stage while in the Premier League, they finished eighth. However, Ten Hag managed to save his job by leading the club to the FA Cup trophy against Manchester City.
Meanwhile, this season the club have endured a sluggish start to the term with just two wins in their last five matches while they languish in the 11th spot in the league.
Pressure has once again started to grow on the former Ajax head coach following their recent 1-1 draw against Twente in the Europa League. If things don’t change going into the season then a decision might be made on Ten Hag’s future.
Well, it could give Ole Gunnar Solskjær another chance at the club if United’s board consider giving him the hot seat at Old Trafford. When the former United head coach was asked about taking the job there once again, he said, “I don’t like to talk about other managers jobs, but yes. Of course I would.”
Looking at Solskjær’s reign as Manchester United manager, he created an identity at the club. It looked like he made them ready as the title contenders before things went downhill in the 2021 season and United fell quickly.
But if he gets another chance at the club then he might reverse the situation. We witnessed under Ole Gunnar Solskjær how United were one of the entertaining sides to watch. They used to challenge the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.
But as things are right now, nothing is assured. Considering how the team is performing this year, the board may have to make a difficult decision if things continue to be the same under Erik ten Hag. After all, Manchester United are still not improving with their performance. Their overall performance continues to decline and they continue to experience hard times getting victories.
