Pellistri was loaned to Granada in January.

Panathinaikos are currently in advanced talks with Manchester United to sign out of favour player Facundo Pellistri.

Pellistri hasn’t played for United in the Premier League since December 2023. He only made a brief appearance in the team’s FA Community Shield loss to Manchester City last weekend at Wembley. It only served as a reminder to supporters that he is still a member of the team.

Erik ten Hag took another chance to see the young talent. But it was in vain as United lost the trophy. After Bernardo Silva’s last-minute equaliser, the game was forced to penalties that City won. Facundo Pellistri appears, nevertheless, to be headed for Greece. Panathinaikos are reportedly in negotiations to sign him.

According to Fabrizio Romano’s claim, Pellistri, a Uruguayan who is having trouble getting minutes at Old Trafford, is reportedly in “advanced talks” with Greek powerhouse Panathinaikos. It is regarding a permanent transfer.

Pellistri joined United from his hometown team Penarol in 2020. But following LaLiga loan stints at Alaves and Granada, the young player is finding it difficult to get opportunities within the first team at Manchester United.

The 22-year-old knew it would be difficult to get playing time given the acquisition of Joshua Zirkzee, the return of Jadon Sancho, following his feud with Erik ten Hag, and the growth of Amad Diallo. As a result, he is expected to be sold.

With four points separating them from first-place PAOK in the Greek Super League regular, Panathinaikos had only managed to finish fourth last season. They were forced to settle for fourth place in the play-off round after only winning two of their five games, even though they had risen to as much as second with four matches remaining.

They easily defeated Botev Plovdiv to qualify for the UEFA Europa League. But their heartbreaking 13–12 penalty shootout loss to AFC Ajax means they will now play Lens of France in the UEFA Conference League.
