Paraguay starting lineup vs Germany confirmed for FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 match

Germany and Paraguay have faced each other once in the FIFA World Cup.

Paraguay did not have the best start to their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, suffering a harsh 4-1 defeat to co-hosts the USA in their opening game.

There were major defence lapses in La Albirroja’s backline as they conceded an own goal to start the game. Folarin Balogun scored a brace, followed by the four goals in the game, netted by Giovanni Reyna.

However, they secured a much-needed victory in their second game of the group stage, against Türkiye. The Crescent-Stars took 32 shots while maintaining 78 per cent possession against La Albirroja. However, the only goal that made a difference in the game was a 2nd-minute strike by Matias Galarza.

In the last group stage game, they clashed against Australia, who commenced their campaign with a 2-0 win over Türkiye. Nevertheless, both sides ended up sharing a point in a goalless draw. Paraguay and Australia, both teams, qualified for the knockout stage of the ongoing FIFA World Cup.

Finishing third in Group D, La Albirroja are set to face the table-toppers of Group E, Germany. The Paraguay vs. Germany clash will be played at the Boston Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on Monday, June 29.

Thoughts on the lineup

La Albirroja have received a major boost before their FIFA World Cup knockout clash against Germany as Miguel Almirón has returned after serving a one-match suspension.

Almirón was shown a red during Paraguay’s group stage clash against Türkiye. However, they will be missing Diego Gomez, who is suspended for the match due to picking up two yellow cards.

Orlando Gill will retain his spot in the goal. Gustavo Gómez and José Canale will play as the centre-backs. Juan José Cáceres and Junior Alonso will play on the flanks while Matías Galarza and Andrés Cubas will add balance to the midfield.

Gabriel Ávalos will play as centre forward, with support from Miguel Almirón and Julio Enciso.
