Paraguay vs Brazil: All-time Head-to-head | Copa America 2024

Brazil started the competition with a 0-0 draw against Costa Rica

About as well as Daniel Garnero could have wished for, Paraguay frustrated the opponents in a compact, low block throughout the first half-hour of their match against Colombia.

Daniel Munoz’s goal in the 32nd minute caused the manager to alter his strategy, which put his team in the unfortunate situation of needing to chase a result.

La Albirroja has lost 18 straight games after giving up the first goal, demonstrating an unusual lack of effectiveness when down. They have now lost their previous three Copa America games when trailing after 45 minutes, two of which took place during regular time.

The biggest surprise of the first matchday happened at SoFi Stadium in California, where Brazil were unable to score from multiple opportunities.

In almost every statistical group, notably possession (74%), predicted goals (1.66 to 0.03), and actions in the opposing area (49 to 2), Dorival Junior’s team outperformed the Costa Ricans.

But in the most crucial statistic, the scoresheet, Brazil fell short, failing to score in two straight Copa America games going all the way back to the 2021 final (a 1-0 loss to Argentina).

They were in a similar situation eight years prior at this tournament and responded magnificently, winning 7-1 against Haiti after their opening 0-0 tie with Ecuador.
