Paul Pogba available for AS Monaco debut against Rennes: Report

The French midfielder is yet to feature for Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.

According to a source from L’Équipe, Paul Pogba (32) is anticipated to make his AS Monaco debut this weekend against Stade Rennais.

Due to a doping ban, Paul Pogba hasn’t competed since September 2023. He signed a contract with Monaco this summer after leaving Juventus. His comeback has been eagerly awaited, having inked a two-year contract back in June.

In a conversation with AFP earlier this week, Sébastien Pocognoli stated that he “wasn’t getting ahead of [himself]” in reference to Pogba’s return. Despite the negative tone of the remark, L’Équipe is aware that Paul Pogba will make a comeback on Saturday night when Monaco travel to Roazhon Park to play Rennes.

During Paul Pogba’s presentation in early July, Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro announced that a three-month program had been implemented to enable him to achieve optimal fitness.

Pogba’s awaited return could finally come true

Although Pogba could have returned to the pitch in early October, the midfielder’s debut was once again delayed due to unforeseen situations.

It would have meant the world for the 2018 World Cup winner had he returned in early October. But there have been setbacks, most notably an ankle sprain at the end of October, which delayed his expected return that same weekend.

If everything goes right, Pogba will finally play football after two years since his ban this weekend. Moreover, it will be a big boost for the French club to have a versatile midfielder available for selection.

As of right now, the 32-year-old has not experienced a relapse and took part in team training last Friday. It will be 26 months since his last game if he makes his debut this weekend.
