Paul Pogba to be a free agent soon; in talks to terminate Juventus contract
The midfielder’s four-year doping ban has been reduced to 18 months.
Paul Pogba’s doping ban was reduced by the Court of Arbitration for Sport and the midfielder can return to training with the club in January and can start playing professional games from March. The former Manchester United was previously handed a four-year ban which has been reduced to 18 months.
However, the midfielder is unlikely to play for Juventus despite his contract with the club runs out until 2026. It is understood the club and Pogba are set to reach an agreement for the termination of his deal with the Serie A side.
Once the midfielder reaches terminations of his contract with Juventus the France midfielder will aim to get back his playing career on track once again. Pogba also believes that a fresh start away from Juventus will be the best option for him.
Following his move from Man United to Juventus the midfielder was injury prone and played only 12 matches for them. Pogba last played for Juventus in 2023 before it was announced he had been banned after testing positive for doping.
But now the ban has been reduced Pogba will be looking to bounce and restart his playing career somewhere else, it appeared that his playing career was all over when he was banned for four years before a new decision was made by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Pogba is 31 and still has many years left to play and many clubs will be looking to sign the player once he terminates his deal with the Italian team.
Paul Pogba’s statement following the ban reduction verdict
When the announcement was made that the ban has been reduced the 2018 World Cup winner reacted to their verdict and said:
”Finally, the nightmare is over. Following the decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, I can look forward to the day when I can follow my dreams again. I always stated that I never knowingly breached World Anti-Doping Agency regulations when I took a nutritional supplement prescribed to me by a doctor, which does not affect or enhance the performance of male athletes.”
“I play with integrity, and although I must accept that this is a strict liability offence, I want to place on record my thanks to the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s judges who heard my explanation.”
