The England international is currently on loan at FC Barcelona.
Marcus Rashford “quit on Manchester United,” according to Paul Scholes, who has further called the England international’s demeanour a “disgrace.” After falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim, the product of the Red Devils’ renowned academy system, spent some time on loan at Aston Villa last season. This was before joining LaLiga powerhouse Barcelona for the 2025–2026 season.
With a brace that defeated Newcastle United, the academy product got off to a strong start for the Spanish team in the UEFA Champions League.

The attacker, who has been in excellent form since his most recent loan move away from Old Trafford, helped out with an assist during their 3-0 victory against Getafe over the weekend. However, he was benched from the starting lineup after arriving late to a morning training session.
Marcus Rashford was loaned to Aston Villa earlier this year after losing favour under United coach Ruben Amorim. Moreover, he had fallen down the ladder under Gareth Southgate, Thomas Tuchel’s predecessor, but his performances for Unai Emery’s club guaranteed his recall to the England squad.
Scholes blasts Rashford for his negligible effort at United
Although Paul Scholes praised Rashford’s skill, he took issue with the 27-year-old’s strategy during his turbulent time at United.
“There’s no doubt the talent that kid has got, it’s ridiculous, he’s shown up in a big game, and that second goal was brilliant,” Scholes remarked on The Good, The Bad and The Football podcast.
“I really struggled to feel happy for him, to feel pleased for him. Mainly because his attitude, his attitude at United.
“The time he was leaving, I thought it was just disgrace at United, not trying, basically. Look, if you fell out with a manager, then OK, but remember, you’ve got team-mates you’re playing with.”
Meanwhile, for Rashford, who seems to have found his form at Barcelona, he will hope to continue in a similar vein for the entirety of the season and hopefully lead the club to the Champions League.
Why did Rashford leave Man Utd?
He hasn’t left them as he has joined the other team on loan after falling out with United’s coach.
Will he return to Man United after the loan spell?
It looks unlikely, as Amorim has been keen on selling Rashford.
Was Rashford not motivated to play for the Red Devils?
According to Scholes, he felt the player didn’t put in his best efforts while playing for United.
