The Spanish manager is currently enduring his worst time as head coach.

After his team’s most recent disaster exit from the Champions League, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is the subject of shocking rumours surrounding his role at the Etihad Stadium.

After a thrilling 3-2 loss to Los Blancos in the first leg, City lost to Real Madrid 3-1 in a sloppy way in the second leg. This guaranteed their elimination from the Champions League in the middle of the week with an aggregate loss of 6-3.

The Etihad team is currently in a predicament after being kicked out of European competition and struggling in the Premier League. This follows after Guardiola was seriously pondering about leaving the club in the summer.

The former manager of Barcelona and Bayern Munich was expected to make his exit in the summer of 2025 when his contract was set to end, but he made a surprise U-turn and signed a new contract in November, 2024. As a result, he has a contract with Etihad through 2027.

However, it has come to light in Spain that he was under pressure to sign the new contract. He was more interested in the England position, which Thomas Tuchel had subsequently taken.

“Guardiola did not think about Manchester City last summer,” Josep Pedrerol claimed on El Chiringuito. “He was thinking about the England national team.

“It’s an extension that he didn’t want. It was involuntary, almost forced. He signed because it was the only thing he had. He wants to leave Manchester.”

In recent months, Pep Guardiola has undoubtedly shown every indication of a guy experiencing stress. After watching his team blow a three-goal lead late in a thrilling Champions League draw with Feyenoord, he even showed up for his post-match interview with scratches on his head, which was done by none other than him.

Although his team’s performance has somewhat stabilized since then, Guardiola’s future remains a serious concern given how close he was to quitting Manchester City only a few months ago. His time at the club still appears uncertain if the club doesn’t pick themselves up in the league as they are fourth (very unlike them) in the standing.
