Pepe: Full football career in numbers

Pepe was one of the greatest modern football defenders.
Pepe, a Portuguese defender, declared his retirement from football. The 41-year-old centre-back, who previously played for Porto, Real Madrid and Besiktas, made the decision. Like his former colleague Toni Kroos, he last participated in a game at Euro 2024 earlier this summer.
Pepe’s prime years were spent with Real Madrid. 13 major honours were won by him while he was a member of Los Blancos from 2007 to 2017: three La Liga championships, three Champions Leagues, two Copa del Reys, two Club World Cups, two Spanish Super Cups and one UEFA Super Cup.
He made the announcement of his retirement on all of his social media channels, including YouTube where he posted a 33-minute video.
Pepe was beloved by Real Madrid supporters and developed into a cult icon over his ten-year tenure. Cristiano Ronaldo also expressed his feelings after Pepe’s decision via social media.
He played 141 games for his country Portugal, capturing the Euros in 2016.
Pepe left Porto in 2007 to join Los Blancos. He later joined the Portuguese team again in 2019 and stayed there until the conclusion of his career, winning four Primeira Liga titles in two stints.
Pepe was known for his aggressive defending and etched his name as one of the greatest defenders of all time. He was instrumental in helping Madrid win its first Champions League in 2013-14 since 2002.
Even in his twilight years, he continued to play at the very top level and it never looked like he had aged. We take a look below at his career in numbers.
