Three goalkeepers make it to this elite list.

Over the last five years, we have witnessed the emergence of some of the greatest footballing icons. From teenagers showcasing their talent to veterans leading by example, the previous five years have seen the rise and fall of many footballing superstars.

The world has witnessed Harry Kane finally lifting a trophy, to Bruno Fernandes single-handedly pulling Manchester United’s chariot. Now we take a closer look at the top 10 players with the most minutes in Europe’s top five leagues since the 2020-21 season till the end of the 2024-25 season:

10. Jules Kounde – 19,849 minutes

The French right back has been a pillar of strength for the Catalan outfit ever since he arrived at FC Barcelona. Even during tough times, he was a beacon of strength for Barca. He plied his trade for Sevilla before joining Barcelona.

He was inducted into the LaLiga team of the season thrice in the last five years and also played a crucial role in helping Barca win the treble this year under Hansi Flick. His acceleration from the right flank was a key reason behind Barca’s dominant display of football from the wings.

9. Gianluga Mancini – 19,865 minutes

The Italian centre back was a defensive superpower in the heart of AS Roma’s defence. From playing a crucial role in establishing an impregnable defensive wall under Jose Mourinho to even marshalling his team’s defence from behind, Mancini has been Roma’s best defender in the last few years.

He was part of the squad that won the UEFA Conference League in 2022 and came agonisingly so close in 2023 to lifting the UEFA Europa League. But his missed penalty saw Roma settle for a silver medal.

8. Harry Kane – 20,045 minutes

No wonder, there can only be one Golden Boot winner whenever Harry Kane plays in any competition. Unarguably, one of the most consistent goal-scoring machines for whichever club he has played for.

After rendering his service for almost two decades for the North London outfit Tottenham, he switched sides to join Bayern Munich in the German top division. Little did anyone expect him to go and win the Golden Boot in his very first season in a completely different league. Harry, this season not only led Bayern to the German championship but also broke his trophy curse.

7. Ederson – 20,047 minutes

The Brazilian custodian played a crucial role in helping Manchester City become an invincible side, not just in England but also in Europe. He was the last line of Pep Guardiola’s defence and always led the team by example in the last five seasons.

He won the Premier League Golden Glove award thrice and has helped City win the English top flight four times in a row consecutively in the last five years.

6. Antonio Rudiger – 20,076 minutes

The German defender has played for two of the biggest clubs in Europe in the last five seasons. After making over a century of appearances for Chelsea and winning the UEFA Champions League under the tutelage of Thomas Tuchel, he found his new home at Santiago Bernabeu.

He has so far made another century of appearances for Real Madrid since joining the club. He was part of the side that won LaLiga and the UEFA Champions League in the 2023-24 season.

5. Mohamed Salah – 20,108 minutes

The Egyptian King has been a cornerstone player for Liverpool in the last half-decade. Since joining the Reds, he has stayed loyal to the club and even with time, he has shown no signs of slowing down, nor has any dip in form been observed.

He won the Premier League Golden Boot Award twice in the last five years and played a crucial role in helping Arne Slot’s Liverpool end City’s domination in the English top flight.

4. Declan Rice – 20,149 minutes

Declan Rice’s transfer fee to Arsenal might have sent shockwaves, but the minutes under his belt reflect his consistency on the pitch for whichever side he has played for. After rendering his services to West Ham, he decided to switch his allegiance to another London outfit in 2023 when he joined Arsenal.

He was a protagonist in West Ham’s run to UEFA Conference League glory in the 2022-23 season. Despite Arteta’s side missing out on the English championship, Rice has consistently delivered for his side when it matters the most.

3. Jan Oblak – 21,273 minutes

Two things are constant in Atletico Madrid: Diego Simeone on the touchline and Jan Oblak between the sticks. The Slovenian custodian unarguably has been one of the finest goalkeepers in the European subcontinent and has stood up to his expectations.

He helped his side clinch the LaLiga in the 2020-21 season. Oblak continues to defend the Atletico goalpost with pride and honour, standing as the beacon of loyalty and commitment.

2. Alex Remiro – 21,576 minutes

The 30-year-old Spanish goalkeeper from Cascante has been guarding Real Sociedad‘s goalpost for the last half decade. He played a crucial role in helping Real Sociedad win the Copa del Rey in the 2019-20 season and has been instrumental in his team’s success over the years.

He is just 30 and has a long road ahead. Remiro’s consistency is a testament to his fitness, performance and exceptional reflexes between the sticks.

1. Bruno Fernandes – 22,823 minutes

Coaches have come and gone in the last five years, and things have been downhill for the Red Devils. Amidst all the dark times, the Portuguese maestro has been the silver lining in the cloud at Old Trafford. He has led his team from the front, winning the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup in the last half-decade.

The Red Devils came agonisingly so close to lifting the European honours twice in the last five years but ultimately failed to Spurs and Sevilla in the UEL Finals. Bruno has unarguably been United’s best and most consistent player in the last few years.
