Many of these stars have played a pivotal role for both these clubs
The trophy cabinet of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich speaks volumes of their status as top European clubs. Over the years, both clubs have won several trophies, establishing themselves as one of Europe’s powerhouses. Several legendary players have played for these two clubs, ranging from Ze Roberto to Toni Kroos and Arjen Robben. It is a dream of many players to play for these clubs, but few get the chance to do so.
Now, let’s take a look at the top nine players to play for both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich:
9. Alvaro Odriozola
During his time at Los Blancos, the Spanish international showed promising signs as a right-back. Having found opportunities hard to come by, he decided to make a season-long move to Bayern Munich. But he ultimately failed to make an impact in the team, appearing on five occasions. In these matches, he logged 180 minutes while providing an assist as well.
8. Hamit Altintop
His career has taken him to several of the best European teams, including Bayern, Real Madrid, Schalke, and Galatasaray. After beginning his career at Schalke, Altintop moved to Bayern in 2007.
The player made more than 109 appearances for Bayern over three seasons, and he proved an extremely valuable member. In contrast to Bayern, Real Madrid was less successful because he was sold to Galatasaray the following season after not establishing himself.
7. James Rodriguez
During the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Rodriguez was the center of attention for top clubs in Europe who, all looking to sign him, were willing to fork out a lot of money to secure him. During his debut season, he scored 17 goals and assisted another 15. However, he moved to Bayern Munich in 2017-18 after failing to get a spot in Zidane’s team. In total, he played 67 games during his time at Bayern Munich, scoring 15 goals and assisting 19 others.
6. Paul Breitner
As one of the best players of his time, Paul Breitner won a number of trophies with Real Madrid and Bayern. The German star scored 17 goals during his time at Bayern between 1970 and 1974, which attracted Real to him. He played 84 games for the club during his three season stint, scoring ten goals and earning a status as one of the club’s greatest players.

5. Xabi Alonso
Xabi Alonso began his career with Real Sociedad, but it was at Liverpool that he began to make a mark in world football. After his performances with Liverpool, he moved to Real Madrid in 2009. He has since won all the accolades in club football for both of these clubs.
As a Los Blancos player, he played in over 236 matches and was among the first names on the squad. The calm and composed player was then signed by Bayern Munich, winning three consecutive Bundesliga titles during his 117 appearances.
4. Ze Roberto
Roberto started his career with Portuguesa, playing 61 times for the team. His performances in the midfield led Real Madrid to sign him. But he stayed with them for just one season after failing to establish himself. The German club, Bayer Leverkusen, brought him back to European football after regaining his feet after one season at Flamengo. Bayern were quick to secure his services, and he became a Legend in the club during his seven-year stay.
3. Toni Kroos
One of the greatest midfielders of the last decade, Toni Kroos continues to perform well at the top. During the 2014 World Cup, he played an integral part in Germany’s victory. Real Madrid were quick to entice him away from Bayern to start a new era for the club. Considering how much he has contributed to Real Madrid’s success, the €25m Real Madrid spent on him still feels like a bargain.
2. Arjen Robben
Robben made his name at Chelsea under Mourinho, who brought the best out of him. During his time at Real Madrid, he made 63 appearances. His career at Bayern was his turning point.
It was during his time with the club that he won 17 trophies and was known as the legend of the team. He scored 144 goals in 309 appearances here, securing his place in the club’s history.
1. David Alaba
It is no secret that David Alaba has won every domestic title with Bayern Munich. During his 422 appearances for Bayern Munich, he scored 33 goals and was scouted at an early age by a Bayern Munich scouting team, who considered him the future. At the moment, he is playing for Real Madrid after signing on a free transfer. He has made over 102 appearances for the club, winning all of its trophies. Due to injury, he is currently out of the game and will no doubt be looking to return stronger next season.
