Top four players to score a hat-trick against Bayern Munich in Champions League
Raphinha was the last player to score a hat-trick against the German giants.
Scoring a hat-trick is one of the best things for a forward, and when it’s coming against a big side like Bayern Munich, it adds further joy. There are players who score hat tricks for fun. In the Champions League, we have seen many players score trebles against big teams. However, given the dominance of the German club, only a handful of players have registered a hat-trick against Bayern.
But some players have taken the game to their head and singlehandedly inspired their side to a win against Bayern by scoring a hat-trick. In this article, we take a look at those players who have produced a hat-trick against the German club. There are only four players who have ever done so, let’s know them.
4. Roy Makaay (2002)
Roy Makaay was the first-ever player to hit three goals against Bayern Munich and given the club he scored for makes his hat-trick even more astonishing. His encounter with the German club came in the 2002–03 UEFA Champions League season when he was at his peak and ready to cause problems for his opponent.
Bayern were the victim and despite being on the verge of winning the game, Makaay unleashed his goalscoring prowess and scored three goals against the Bundesliga side, at the Olympiastadion in Munich, in Deportivo’s 3–2 win over the Bavarians on 19 September 2002.
3. Sergio Aguero (2014)
Manchester City and Bayern Munich were in the same group. When both sides faced each other it was a head-to-head match. However, the Premier League side emerged victorious.
City took the lead through their prolific striker Sergio Aguero. But soon Bayern took the lead through Xabi Alonso while Robert Lewandowski cancelled the Argentine’s goal. However, the former Barcelona player had other plans that day as he rallied City to a comeback, scored two more goals and completed a hat-trick as City beat Bayern 3-2.
2. Cristiano Ronaldo (2017)
Cristiano Ronaldo was havoc for Bayern Munich whenever he played against them as he always used to get on the scoresheet. When the German club faced Real Madrid in the 2016-17 Champions League quarter-final the Portuguese star displayed his peak performance and produced a hat-trick. Los Blancos went on to win the game 6-3 on aggregate and reached the semi-final of the competition.
1. Raphinha (2024)
Raphinha is now the latest addition to the list of players who scored a hat-trick against Bayern Munich. The Brazilian was rampant against the German club and opened his account just one minute into the game as Barcelona went on to beat the Bundesliga side 4-1 under Hansi Flick. It was Barcelona’s first win against the German club since 2015 and Raphinha became the first Brazilian to score a treble against Bayern.
