Sweden vs Tunisia: Top five players to watch out for in FIFA World Cup 2026 ft- Viktor Gyökeres & Hannibal Mejbri

The spotlight will be on Viktor Gyökeres as he shoulders the hopes of Sweden in the FIFA World Cup 2026

Sweden have returned to football’s biggest stage after failing to qualify for Qatar 2022. Ranked 38th in the FIFA Rankings, the Blue and Yellow boast an elite attack that has powered them to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Tunisian national football team on the other hand have qualified for their third consecutive World Cup. The African nation picked up wins in each of their last two appearances; however, they failed to qualify to the knockout stage.

With Sweden and Tunisia set to lock horns in the Group F opener, these five players could turn difference makers for their respective sides:

Viktor Gyökeres (Sweden)

Arsenal’s Premier League winner will have big boots to fill as the Swedish national football team open their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign against Tunisia. Partnering with the likes of Alexander Isak and Anthony Elanga in attack, Victor Gyokeres has with him partners that are equally potent in front of goal.

Gyokeres scored 21 goals for the Gunners last season in all competitions, a number that the striker can significantly improve in the next season and the World Cup could serve as the spark for the same.

Benjamin Nygren (Sweden)

The 24-year-old has been part of Sweden’s youth setup before being promoted to the senior national team in 2025. Benjamin Nygren has had a respectable 2025-26 season with Celtic as he bagged 21 goals and had 9 assists in 58 appearances.

Playing behind Gyokeres and the rest of the goal scorers, Nygren has players with great quality around him that could potentially boost his assist numbers at the tournament as well.

Elias Achouri (Tunisia)

Currently playing with FC Copenhagen, Elias Achouri will run the show on Tunisia’s left wing against Sweden. The 27-year-old scored 5 goals and provided 7 assists for his club in 37 games in the 2025-26 season.

Achouri is blessed with pace and could seriously hurt Sweden on his day and the Swedish defenders would have to be extra careful while dealing with him.

Isak Hien (Sweden)

Sweden’s captain will lace up his boots and take his position at the heart of their defence. The 27-year-old currently plays for Atalanta in Italy and has become an irreplaceable player for club and country.

Isak Hien has also represented Hellas Verona in the Serie A before his stint with Atalanta. The defender initially made his name with Vasalunds and Djurgården in his home country.

Hannibal Mejbri (Tunisia)

The Burnley midfielder will be tasked to create chances and link the Tunisian midfield with the striker and the wingers. Hannibal Mejbri has experience of playing with Manchester United, Birmingham and Sevilla before he signed up for Burnley and is currently playing with them in the last two seasons.

Just 23 years old, Mejbri has already become one of Tunisia’s best players and he will certainly be a player to watch in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
