Top five players who could leave PSG this summer
The French giants are in the middle of a massive club rebuild this summer.
After losing one of the greatest players in their club’s rich history in the form of Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer, French giants Paris Saint-Germain are in the middle of a massive rebuild this summer.
In the 2023-24 season, PSG enjoyed a good first campaign under newly appointed manager Luis Enrique, as they clinched the Ligue 1 title and the Coupe de France trophy.
With Paris Saint-Germain yet to do substantial business on the market, several potential incomings and outgoings are expected for the remainder of the summer transfer window.
With that said, here are the five players who could leave PSG this summer:
5. Presnel Kimpembe
Centre-back Presnel Kimpembe is expected to leave the French giants this summer, bringing an end to his impressive nine-year stint at the club. In the first half of that spell, Kimpembe was consistently a regular starter in the PSG backline owing to his rock-solid performances. However, with recurring injury problems and overall poor form, the 28-year-old defender has been limited to a rotational squad player role in recent seasons.
Last campaign, the French international missed the entirety of the 2023-24 season owing to his serious long-term injury of an Achilles tendon rupture.
With his last official appearance for the club coming more than a year ago, Paris Saint-Germain will hope to offload Presnel Kimpembe this summer in order to make room for younger talent in the squad.
4. Gonçalo Ramos
Having joined PSG just last season from Benfica in a deal worth €65 million in total, talented Portuguese forward Gonçalo Ramos could well and truly be on the move already this summer. After a promising start, Ramos failed to cement his place as a regular starter in head coach Luis Enrique’s plans.
In his debut campaign for the Ligue 1 club, the 23-year-old forward made 40 appearances across all competitions, recording a respectable 14 goals and two assists in the process.
With the PSG hierarchy keen on the superstar signing of Victor Osimhen in this transfer window, Gonçalo Ramos could potentially be sold in order to balance the books.
3. Carlos Soler
After a substandard two years at the Parc des Princes, versatile midfielder Carlos Soler is one of the frontrunners to depart the club this summer.
Under new manager Luis Enrique last season, the 27-year-old Spaniard registered just 28 appearances across all competitions, while accumulating two goals and four assists in the process.
With Carlos Soler deemed surplus to the long-term project of Paris Saint-Germain, the player could definitely be on the move this summer with clubs such as Real Sociedad interested in acquiring his services.
2. Xavi Simons
Dynamic midfielder Xavi Simons is almost guaranteed to leave PSG this summer, either on a loan deal or on a permanent transfer.
Simons took the football world by storm during his stellar last two loan spells at PSV Eindhoven and RB Leipzig. In his most recent loan move to Leipzig last season, the 21-year-old attacking midfielder recorded an incredible 10 goals and 15 assists in 43 appearances across all competitions. He carried this red-hot form into Euro 2024 as well.
Xavi Simons was one of the standout performers for Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands, registering one goal and three assists during their impressive semifinal run in the tournament.
With RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich keen on signing the player, Xavi Simons’ new club for the upcoming season could be finalised very soon.
1. Manuel Ugarte
One of the hot favourites to exit the club this summer is talented defensive midfielder Manuel Ugarte. Just like Gonçalo Ramos, Ugarte also failed to make a massive impact at Paris Saint-Germain ever since his big-money switch from Sporting Lisbon last season.
During the 2023-24 season, the 23-year-old midfielder made 37 appearances across all competitions, while also registering three assists in the process. Following a strong start to his PSG career, Ugarte failed to deliver solid performances on a consistent basis.
With personal terms already agreed with Manchester United regarding a potential move, PSG could look to cut on their losses and offload Manuel Ugarte in this transfer window to the highest bidder.
