Poland announce squad for October international break; Robert Lewandowski included
Michał Probierz’s side will face Portugal & Croatia in the UEFA Nations League games this October.
Head coach Michał Probierz has revealed the Poland squad for the upcoming international break in mid-October. This time there have been many fresh faces in the squad.
However, their stalwart goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny won’t be in the action this time after he retired from international football. The former Juventus goalie had also confirmed his retirement from all formats of football before reversing his decision in regards to club football.
Meanwhile, one player continues to retain his spot for the Polish side, Robert Lewandowski, the national’s team top scorer. Lewandowski has found this form this season for Barcelona after he scored seven goals in the LaLiga thus far this term.
Poland are third in the UEFA Nations League A Group 1 table with three points with a win and a defeat. Their group also contains Portugal, Croatia and Scotland. They will first face the Selecao before hosting Croatia on 15th October.
Portugal are top of the table with two wins, and Croatia are second in the table with a better goal difference. Scotland are last in the standing without any wins.
If Poland are to finish top of the league they will have to secure wins in all the October games. Otherwise defeats in any game might reduce their chances of advancing further in the competition.
Much of the onus will be on Barcelona striker, Lewandowski who has always stepped up on big occasions. Another spot will be between the sticks as it will be interesting to see who will replace Szczęsny at the national team.
Below we take a look at the Poland squad that will take on their opponents during the October international break.
