Police in London, Madrid & Paris on high alert amid terror threat to Champions League stadiums
UEFA confirms Champions League quarterfinal games will be played despite terror threat
Despite an apparent terror attack, UEFA insists that this week’s Champions League quarterfinal matches will proceed as planned.
Tuesday night’s first leg of Arsenal’s last-eight match versus Bayern Munich will take place at the Emirates Stadium in London’s northwest. Manchester City will also be playing against Real Madrid. On Wednesday, Atletico’s match will be against Borussia Dortmund, and that same evening, Barcelona will take on Paris, where they will play at the Parc des Princes stadium of Paris Saint-Germain.
“UEFA is aware of alleged terrorist threats made towards this week’s UEFA Champions League matches and is closely liaising with the authorities at the respective venues,” the statement said.
“All matches are planned to go ahead as scheduled with appropriate security arrangements in place.”
All four of this week’s matches have been threatened by an ISIS-affiliated media outlet; European football’s governing body, UEFA, has now responded with a statement.

The Metropolitan Police acknowledge that there have been allegations of Champions League games being under attack lately, but they maintain that neither the policing strategy for Arsenal’s match nor the terror risk level have changed from their “substantial” degree as a result of the allegations.Tuesday’s London police chief, Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekan, stated:
“The UK terrorism threat level remains at ‘substantial’ meaning an attack is likely, and we work closely with colleagues from across Counter Terrorism Policing in planning for events here in London, to take into account any relevant information that could help us to keep those attending safe.
“We’re aware of online and media reports in relation to calls to target matches across Europe and here in London.
“However, I want to reassure the public that we have a robust policing plan in place for tonight’s match and we continue to work closely alongside the club’s security team to ensure that the match passes peacefully.
“As ever, we ask the public to remain vigilant, and if they see any that doesn’t look or feel right, then report it to police or security staff.”
