Pope Leo offers blessings to Serie A winners Napoli

Napoli won the Serie A 2024-25 title.

The sovereign of the Vatican City State and the head of the Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIV, met the squad members of the Napoli team. Antonio Conte led Napoli to the Serie A 2024-25 triumph after a heated battle with Inter Milan in the title race.

SSC Napoli won their fourth Italian league title after winning their league fixture against Cagliari. Pope Leo is an AS Roma supporter, as described by the people who know the head of the Catholic Church. Aurelio De Laurentiis, the chairman of SSC Napoli, gifted him the jersey of the Serie A 2024-25 winning club.

Full Squad Effort

The Serie A title of the 2024-25 season came in after an astonishing effort from all the players and support staff. Pope Leo came up with a special speech where he congratulated all the team members and mentioned it as “a great celebration for all of Naples”.

Supporters play a major role in the success of a team/squad. Fans of SSC Napoli proved that when around 200,000 people gathered for the victory parade in support of their club on the streets of Naples.

The Integrity of the Game

Even though lawn tennis is the favourite sport for Pope Leo, he came up to discuss the educational role of football for people of the state.

He mentioned, “when sport becomes a business, it risks losing the values that make it educational, and it can even become harmful from that point of view.” Pope Leo further went on to say that this term is going to play a big role in understanding for the teenagers.

The head of the Catholic Church also told the coaches and parents to “pay close attention to the moral quality of the sporting experience.”

Pope Leo congratulated the Serie A winners Napoli once again at the end of the speech. He also thanked the four-time Italian league winners and offered his blessings to the squad members and their families.

Pope also passed on best wishes from one of his cooks, Rosa, who resides in Naples and is a big fan of SSC Napoli.
