Portugal end partnership with Nike; announce Puma as new sponsor

Nike had a 27-year-old partnership with the Selecao.
Portugal national football team have ended its 27-year-old partnership with Nike, who previously produced their jersey, by signing a long-term arrangement with PUMA.
Portugal and the German sportswear behemoth have struck a multi-year agreement that started in 2025. The male and female national teams, comprising Portugal’s futsal, beach football, and e-Sports teams, will receive jerseys from PUMA, which also collaborates with teams like Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund, and several national teams including Austria and Mohamed Salah’s Egypt.
Since 1997, Nike has supplied Portugal’s uniforms, and the American sportswear company still has a contract with their top player, Cristiano Ronaldo.
PUMA CEO Arne Freundt said: “Associating with a top national team was one of our priorities in soccer and I am very excited to have a team as popular as Portugal in the PUMA Family. Given the large number of Selecao fans around the world and the great potential of the new generation of players, we are looking forward to the next major tournaments, such as the 2026 World Cup.”
Portugal’s next game is against Denmark in the UEFA Nations League quarterfinals in March. Expect them to take the pitch in their new shirt.
Portugal had previously collaborated with Adidas, Olympic, Carne, and Marlec before Nike struck a long-term partnership with the national team.
Despite their termination, Ronaldo remains one of the biggest promoters of Nike given the former Real Madrid star has signed a lifetime contract with the brand.
This is a big moment for PUMA as now they will be sponsoring one of the top national teams. They will soon start supplying shirts with new designs.
Portugal join Austria, Iceland, Czechia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Morocco, Egypt, Switzerland, and Paraguay as part of PUMA’s portfolio of top international football teams. Additionally, the company has supply agreements with big clubs such as Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan, and Manchester City.
