The Selecao has some top players in great form heading into the World Cup.
One of the nations that will be grabbing the attention of fans ahead of the World Cup 2026 will be Portugal. Given their possession of a quality squad, the Selecao will be entering the competition as no strangers next month.
Now, Roberto Martinez has finally announced the official Portugal squad, which will be motivated to create history in the USA, Mexico and Canada in the summer.
The highly anticipated name fans were looking to see in the squad has been included. Yes, the 41-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo is set to lead his national team for the last time and will be hoping to add the only trophy that has eluded him in his playing career.
In midfield, it was obvious the trio of Bruno Fernandes, Joao Neves, and Vitinha had to be included as they will be the main flag bearers of the midfield, and their presence in the matches will be crucial in the Selecao’s plans of going further in the tournament.
There will be high expectations from the 2016 Euro winners, as this time they are not seen as underdogs but as a side that can beat other heavyweights. Anything less than a place in the semi-final or final will be seen as a failure for Ronaldo and Martinez.
Portugal are drawn in Group K and will have an easy path to the knockout stage as they will face the likes of DR Congo, Uzbekistan and will conclude their group fixture against Colombia.
However, Colombia will be a difficult test, but the Selecao have all the quality to overcome them and finish top of group K.
