PM Luís Montenegro gifts Portugal players special 'Diogo Jota' bracelet for FIFA World Cup 2026

Diogo Jota passed away in a tragic car accident last year.
Portugal are set to commence their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign against DR Congo on Wednesday, June 17. The Portuguese football line-up looks stacked, with players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Vitinha, Rúben Dias and more are set to represent the country at the biggest stage of football.
Roberto Martinez’s men qualified for the World Cup in dominant fashion, finishing first in UEFA Group F. They were undefeated in the group, recording a commanding 9-1 victory over Armenia in their final match.
Although Os Navegadores look ready to put up their challenger for the coveted trophy, the untimely death of Diogo Jota remains a burden on the hearts of players and the whole football world.
Given a minute, the former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Liverpool striker, the Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, can come up with a heartfelt gesture.
Prime Minister Luís Montenegro gifts every Portugal player a Diogo Jota bracelet

The Portuguese prime minister, Luís Montenegro, has gifted every Portuguese player a bracelet bearing their own name alongside that of Diogo Jota. The team will wear the bracelets throughout the FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign.
Talking about the gesture, Vitinha revealed that the Portuguese Prime Minister asked them about the wristband. He also stated that it is the team’s decision to wear the band throughout the FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign.
“Basically, the story of the wristband is, when we went to meet with the Prime Minister, he offered us this wristband. They made sure that it was a wristband that we could wear on the pitch. It has all the specifics for us to be able to enter the pitch with it, with the names of all the players plus the special name of Diogo Jota.”
“He let us choose if we wanted to use it or not, how (we use it), during the day or during the match. We received it with a lot of affection, and we chose to use it.”
