Portugal, led by football icon Cristiano Ronaldo, considered one of the tournament favourites, is on track to compete for their first-ever World Cup. They sealed their spot after a dominant first-place finish in their UEFA qualification group. Portugal is placed in Group K for the 2026 World Cup, regarded as an easy challenge for the Roberto Martínez-led side. The group will comprise DR Congo, Uzbekistan, and Colombia. They begin their World Cup campaign against DR Congo on June 17 at Houston Stadium, Texas.
Nigeria, despite boasting one of the most valuable squads in African football, failed to qualify for the 2026 edition after a disappointing qualification outing, losing the CAF play-off final against DR Congo. Despite missing the tournament, Nigeria, guided by elite talents like Victor Osimhen, is all set to prove to be a difficult challenge for Portugal.
