Premier League great Michael Owen names the club that would suit Lionel Messi

The Argentine has been linked with Manchester City.
Lionel Messi’s ideal Premier League team, according to former Liverpool and Manchester United great Michael Owen, is Manchester City.
Owen thinks Messi is a perfect fit for Man City because of his familiarity with the team’s style of play and manager Pep Guardiola. Owen said these things in an interview with ESPN Argentina.
“One player that’s not been in the Premier League? Yeah, Messi, Messi, yeah, he’s going to be suitable for anybody,” Owen said. “It must be Manchester City. I mean, with Pep—Pep knows him, they’re a passing team. It has to be Manchester City, yeah.”
The 37-year-old Messi has been connected to a possible Premier League transfer. In their last 12 games, Pep Guardiola’s team have only won once, most recently falling to Aston Villa (1-2) in the league on Saturday.
City are sixth in the table and now it appears like they are completely out of the title race as things are far from their control. Now finishing fourth will be the main priority for the club as they wouldn’t want to miss out on a UEFA Champions League spot.
In a recent report, it has been understood that Guardiola is keen on bringing Messi to the club on a six-month loan deal. The coach feels the Argentine has the ability to make a massive influence, even possibly turning the fortunes around of the club.
However, it will be challenging to bring Messi to the league. It’s unlikely that Inter Miami will sanction a loan deal given they will need their top star for the upcoming season (MLS) which will start in February.
The Herons will need the former Barcelona star for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 and will hope to keep him fit until then. However, if City do feel they need a player who can make things happen then they might push for his signing in the January transfer window.
