Nike has continued to be English top-flight league match ball for over four years.
The most recent iteration of the Nike Flight, which has been continuously in use for the previous four years, is the official match football for the 2024–25 Premier League and Nike campaign.
The most recognisable visual components from earlier Premier League ball incarnations served as inspiration for the Nike Flight ball.
With the Aerowsculpt technology built-in, the ball’s casing has grooves that help airflow around it smoothly, producing more accurate crosses.
Rather than the enormous golden Xs and antique writing used last season, the latest update of the Flight ball sees an unusual neon yellow and purple image superimposed on the furrowed casing, which is supposed to increase aerodynamic stability.
The Flight will be Nike’s last Premier League ball released after a 25-year partnership. Puma is poised to assume the role of official supplier at the onset of the 2025–2026 campaign.
Several top-flight teams have been warming up with the 2024-25 ball during pre-season training, though the ball is scheduled for its first proper usage when Manchester United get their campaign underway versus Fulham at Old Trafford on Aug. 16.
In a statement, the league said: “The Nike Flight ball is inspired by the most iconic graphic elements from previous iterations of the Premier League ball.
“Built with Aerowsculpt technology, with grooves debased into the casing, this allows the air to travel seamlessly around the ball delivering truer flight.”
On their website the ball has been described as “built to help you succeed on the pitch.” The ball features four fused panels which allegedly “helps create a larger sweet spot for more powerful strikes.”
Furthermore, it also has moulded grooves to “help reduce drag and a grippy texture for better control in any weather.”
However, the fans seem to be still living in Nostalgia and have not been impressed with the new ball after one of them said: “Nothing compares to the 94/95 Mitre Premier League!”
