Qatar Stars League is one of the most recognized leagues in Asia.

Established in 1963, with the first official season unfurling in 1972, the Qatar Stars League has since been the pinnacle of Qatar’s football league system. The league features 12 clubs, with one club being demoted to make room for one club being promoted from the second division.

The Qatar Stars League is recognized as one of Asia’s top leagues, which attracted a constellation of footballing icons from across the globe. Some of the renowned names that have played in the league include Frank de Boer, Romario, Pep Guardiola, Fernando Hierro, Marcel Desailly, James Rodriguez, Yacine Brahimi.

Let’s delve into the Qatar Stars League’s all-time top 10 scorers and look at some of their significant achievements.

10. Nam Tae-hee (94 goals)

The South Korean attacker is ranked 10th with a remarkable tally of 94 goals. His time in the Qatar Stars League with Al Sadd and Al Duhail has been marked by six league titles.

He also played a significant role in South Korea’s runner-up finish in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup, showcasing his consistent scoring ability and vital presence on the field.

9. Akram Afif (99 goals)

Akram Afif, the star Asian footballer, has scored 99 goals for Al Sadd in the QSL. With 112 appearances and 37 goals for the Qatar national team, his talent has shone brightly on the international stage, winning the AFC Asian Cup in 2019 and 2023.

Afif’s brilliance was recognized with the Asian Footballer of the Year award in 2019, along with the Golden Boot and best player award in the 2023 Asian Cup.

8. Hassan Al Haydos (99 goals)

A stalwart of Qatari football, Hassan Al Haydos has notched up 99 goals in the QSL. His remarkable career with Al Sadd has been embellished with six QSL titles and an AFC Champions League title in 2011. His achievements also include two AFC Asian Cup triumphs in 2019 and 2023.

Al Haydos’s contributions were acknowledged with the Qatar Football Association Player of the Year Award in 2015.

7. Youssef Msakni (105 goals)

The Tunisian International has been a force to reckon with in the QSL, scoring 105 goals. In the QSL, he has played for Al Duhail and Al Arabi. Youssef has over 100 appearances for the Tunisian national team, a runners-up finish in the FIFA Arab Cup in 2021.

Msakni has been twice recognized with the Qatar Stars League best player awards in the 2017-18 and 2022-23 seasons.

6. Meshal Abdullah (123 goals)

Meshal Abdullah’s career in the QSL is a testament to his versatility, having represented five different clubs and scoring 123 goals.

His journey across Al Gharafa, Qatar SC, Al Wakrah, Al Sailiya, and Al Ahli reflects his adaptability. Abdullah also represented Qatar in 43 international matches, finding the back of the net nine times.

5. Younis Mahmoud (131 goals)

Younis Mahmoud, the Iraqi football icon, stands tall with 131 goals in the QSL. His storied career in the league is marked by three championships with Al Gharafa and one with Al Sadd.

Mahmoud’s prowess earned him three QSL top scorer awards and the title of AFC Asian Cup’s most valuable player and joint top scorer in 2007.

4. Rodrigo Tabata (148 goals)

The Brazilian-born Qatari international, ranks fourth in the QSL’s scoring charts with 148 goals. His illustrious career in Qatar, representing powerhouses Al Rayyan and Al Sadd, has been crowned with a QSL title in the 2015-16 season.

Tabata’s individual brilliance was twice honoured with the Qatar Stars League Player of the Year award, alongside a top scorer award in the same season.

3. Baghdad Bounedjah (150 goals)

Baghdad Bounedjah’s journey in the QSL began with Al Sadd in the 2015-16 season, and since then, he has been a scoring colossus with 150 goals. His international accolades with Algeria include the FIFA Arab Cup in 2021 and the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019.

A four-time QSL champion, Bounedjah’s trophy cabinet also includes the Algerian Footballer of the Year in 2018, two Qatar Stars League golden boots, and the AFC Champions League top scorer award in 2018.

2. Mansour Muftah (182+ goals)

Mansour Muftah, a name synonymous with relentless scoring, has amassed an impressive 182+ goals, making him the league’s revered second-highest scorer.

His career, adorned with stints at Al Rayyan and Al Wakrah, also boasts 42 international goals for Qatar. Muftah’s dominance is further highlighted by his six league titles and a record seven top scorer awards.

1. Sebastian Soria (209 goals)

Sebastian Soria, the quintessential goal machine of the Qatar Stars League, has scored a record 209 goals. His tenure with the Qatar national team, spanning a decade, saw him don the maroon jersey 123 times.

A four-time Qatar Stars League champion, Soria’s finesse on the field was recognized with the QFA Player of the Season in 2005-06 and the league’s top scorer award in the 2012-13 season.
