Qatar and Switzerland are drawn in Group B of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Qatar are set to start their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign against Switzerland at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on June 13. Both teams are drawn in Group B for the summer competition alongside co-hosts Canada and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
In the first group match, Canada and Bosnia-Herzegovina drew 1-1 at the Toronto Stadium. As a result, the winning team in the upcoming clash would have the opportunity to take the first position in the group.
Regarding Qatar’s route to the FIFA World Cup, they secured a spot in the competition by winning their playoff group in the fourth round of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) qualifiers. Qatar also hosted the World Cup in the last edition, which marked its debut in the tournament.
As they have secured a spot in the FIFA World Cup for consecutive editions, they will look to advance further in the tournament, namely, qualifying for the knockout stage this time.
On the other hand, Switzerland sailed smoothly through in the European qualifiers. They secured their spot in the FIFA World Cup 2026 by finishing first in UEFA Qualifying Group B, remaining undefeated.
The Group B fixture will be the first competitive meeting of the two nations. Switzerland and Qatar have met only once before. The only meeting was an international friendly in November 2018, which Qatar won, and they are currently 56th in the FIFA rankings. The victory was decided by only one goal as Akram Afif broke the deadlock in the 86th minute.
Walking into the World Cup, Qatar are winless in their last five games, while Switzerland have won just one, and the victory came against Jordan.
