The Colombia captain had confirmed he wants to return to Europe.

James Rodriguez experienced one of the best Copa America tournaments. The player took Colombia to the final of the 2024 competition, scoring once and setting up a further five goals. Throughout the tournament, the former Real Madrid midfielder was awarded Man of the Match and also secured the Player of the Tournament award.

The midfielder is now targeting a return to Europe this summer. Teams like Lazio and Rayo Vallecano were interested in signing him after his performance piqued the attention of European teams.

Rayo Vallecano are understood to be looking for a big name to add to the squad ahead of the upcoming season. The Spanish side have earlier signed the likes of Hugo Sanchez, Austrian Toni Polster and more recently, Colombian Radamel Falcao.

Now Rodriguez could be another big name to join the team this summer. It will mainly depend on the interest of the player. The Colombian addition will certainly provide a new spark in the LaLiga team.

James Rodriguez is 33 and still has much more to offer at the top level, despite enduring ups and downs in his career. He has spent most of his career playing for different clubs. His breakthrough came during the 2014 World Cup, after which Real Madrid signed him for £63 million.

But since his move to the Spanish club, he hasn’t had a convincing career. The midfielder barely played at the club and was later loaned to Bayern Munich.

Following his return, he was sold to Everton. There he spent a season and later joined Saudi side Al-Rayyan. The Colombian then moved to the Olympiacos before joining Brazilian club Sau Paulo.

The midfielder has a year remaining on his current deal with Sau Paulo. He should be available for a cut-price deal. Less than €5 million will be required to sign him, according to the report.

James Rodriguez is still a highly undervalued midfield player who will undoubtedly climb the ladder at the highest level. At the Copa America 2024, he demonstrated once more that he is still an admirable player capable of making an important contribution.

He has a relatively inexpensive release clause, which clubs could potentially take advantage of. Thus it will be interesting to see which club is able to get his signature.
