The full-back returns after a long gap from football.
Ferland Mendy resumed training with his Real Madrid colleagues this week for the first time in nearly six months.
In the eighth minute of the Copa del Rey final loss to FC Barcelona on April 26, the French left-back tore his right quadriceps’ proximal tendon.
Four days afterwards, Mendy underwent surgery, and the team at the time projected that the defender would be sidelined for 10 to 12 weeks.
The 30-year-old’s exertion in group exercises will now be gradually increased in order to reduce the likelihood of an injury reoccurring.
Other Madrid stars’ injury updates

Trent Alexander-Arnold, a 27-year-old defender, and Dani Carvajal are expected to make their comebacks in time for El Clásico on October 26.
While Trent has been out since suffering a hamstring injury in the UEFA Champions League encounter against Marseille on September 16, Carvajal suffered a calf injury during the match against Atletico Madrid.
Both of Real Madrid’s right-backs are now quite likely to be available to play against Barcelona in El Clásico.
Dean Huijsen, meanwhile, will miss Real Madrid’s upcoming matchup with Getafe. The 20-year-old defender was even omitted from the group after he was unable to participate in the training camp with the Spanish national football team due to signs of muscle fatigue.
Since his ankle problem is thought to be relatively mild, Kylian Mbappe should be well and eligible to play against Getafe on Sunday.
With the possibility that he will be in the starting lineup, he should be able to train with his teammates in the days ahead. Another possibility could be that, even if he recovers, Mbappe might be rested against Getafe.
What injury did Mendy suffer?
The left-back tore his right quadriceps’ proximal tendon.
How long was he out for?
He is returning after a recovery period of six months.
What about other Madrid players’ injury updates?
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dani Carvajal should return for the Barcelona match, while Mbappe could play against Juventus. Meanwhile, Huijsen’s return remains uncertain.
