Lucas Vazquez has been utilised as an experienced rotational player in recent years.

Following the contract extension of their new club captain, Luka Modric, Real Madrid have now announced the one-year contract extension of yet another veteran star, Lucas Vazquez, until June 30, 2025.

In 2007, Vazquez joined the Real Madrid youth system at the age of 16 and has since been a loyal servant of the club. He has been an integral part of one of the most successful periods in Los Blancos’ history.

In his nine full seasons as a first-team player for the club, Vazquez has managed to make an incredible 349 appearances, registering 36 goals and 65 assists in the process. During this illustrious period, he also won a staggering 21 trophies in total: Five Champions Leagues, four Club World Cups, three European Super Cups, four LaLiga titles, one Copa del Rey and four Spanish Super Cups.

In the 2023-24 season, the 33-year-old versatile player enjoyed a successful club campaign with Real Madrid, making 38 appearances across all competitions and recording valuable contributions of three goals and eight assists. He played an important role in Madrid clinching the LaLiga, the Spanish Super Cup and the UEFA Champions League titles.

Despite his strong performances, he unfortunately couldn’t find a place in Luis de la Fuente’s final Spain squad for Euro 2024. Throughout his international career, Lucas Vazquez has earned only nine caps for La Roja.

In recent years, Vazquez has been employed as a utility player for Madrid, slotting in comfortably at various positions and delivering world-class performances time and again. In an injury-ridden last season for Los Blancos, the five-time Champions League winner showcased his experience, professionalism and versatility as a player. The player was putting in exceptional shifts both as a dynamic forward on the wings and as a competent full-back in defence.

Despite the rotational squad role, Vazquez gave Real Madrid his first priority over several lucrative offers from all over the world. After rejecting all the potential offers, Vazquez put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension at the Spanish capital side, a club where he has spent all of his playing career.

With Toni Kroos’ retirement and Kylian Mbappe’s arrival this summer, Lucas Vazquez could potentially serve as one of the dressing room leaders for the upcoming season. His invaluable experience and mentorship could enable the all-star Galactico roster to perform at their maximum potential.
