The Spanish club went without a major trophy in the previous season.
Real Madrid have set one of the worst-ever records following their elimination from the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. Their season ended with a massive 4-0 defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain. The Spanish club conceded 84 goals this season across all competitions, which is tied for its most ever in a single season.
Moreover, their campaign ended disappointingly with no major trophies and with some of the club’s poorest statistics in recent memory. Despite the management change and reinforcements, we saw them suffer one of the worst defeats of late at the hands of UEFA Champions League winners PSG.

Only the FIFA Intercontinental Cup (against Pachuca) and the UEFA Super Cup (against Atalanta) were won by Madrid out of seven potential championships. The present disparity between Los Blancos and Europe’s best was exemplified by the 4-0 loss to PSG in the Club World Cup semifinals.
In addition to playing the most official games in club history (68), the team also gave up 84 goals, which is equal to the worst defensive record from 1998–99, but in more games.
According to BeSoccer Pro, their average goals given up per game (1.24), although marginally better than during turbulent seasons like 2018–19 or 2008–09, is still a worrying figure for a team of this calibre.
Real Madrid had to adjust their defensive strategy due to injuries, frequently starting Eduardo Camavinga, Aurélien Tchouaméni, or even Federico Valverde in the backline. Beyond the team’s physical setbacks, however, they never developed a strong, enduring identity.
The team’s tactical shortcomings were exposed once again by PSG’s thumping. We are used to seeing it get further highlighted by defeats in the UEFA Champions League against teams like Liverpool, Arsenal, and AC Milan, as well as by losses in El Clásico.
This season, the team lost 15 games, which had not happened since 2018–19, the season following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure. The campaign fell far short of Real Madrid’s high expectations due to early eliminations in the Champions League, LaLiga, and Spanish Super Cup.
