The Los Blancos see the Portuguese as a possible signing if they miss out on Trent Alexander-Arnold

Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot is being considered by Real Madrid. Relevo claims that Madrid view the defender as a backup plan in case their attempts to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold in the upcoming transfer windows fail.

According to reports, Los Blancos contacted Manchester United a while back regarding the Portuguese defender. It is also said that offers under €50 million will not be entertained by United.

The acquisition of Alexander-Arnold, whose deal with Liverpool is slated to expire at the end of the current campaign, is still Real Madrid’s top goal. The possibility of a contract extension has, however, grown in recent weeks. However, it is impossible to rule out the prospect of signing both defenders.

And when Erik ten Hag was still in charge, the 15-time Champions League champions also contacted United regarding Dalot. Last season, the United players chose the 25-year-old, who has played 178 games for the Red Devils, as their player of the year.

Dalot started 35 of 38 Premier League games and scored twice during United’s miserable 2023–24 season, which increased his significance.

Dalot is probably going to be included in the list of players that new manager Ruben Amorim wants to work with going forward. However, the Portugal international signed a new contract with United in May 2023, leaving him with four years left on his current one.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s situation at Liverpool & Real Madrid’s interest

Alexander-Arnold might be acquired by Madrid for nothing in the meantime. After rising through the youth ranks, the Merseyside star is approaching the last six months of his Liverpool contract.

However, Arne Slot will be trying to persuade him to sign a new contract at Anfield, and if the team keeps improving, it will be difficult to say no.

Alexander-Arnold’s boyhood team has won everything, including the FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Champions League, and their first Premier League title.

With his current contract expiring in June, the 26-year-old is theoretically free to sign a pre-contract deal with any club in January.
