The former Bayer Leverkusen manager is under heavy scrutiny.
After Real Madrid’s 0-2 loss to Celta Vigo at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday night, Xabi Alonso is under a lot of pressure.
The manager’s time appears to be in jeopardy. Rumours of a locker room divide are once again gathering traction. This is just when it seemed that the club had turned a corner after defeating Athletic Club.
Xabi Alonso has been given one game to prove himself

El Mundo reports that Real Madrid’s top officials met for many hours at the club headquarters following the defeat to Celta Vigo to determine if Alonso should stay in his position.
After just one victory in their last five league games, Real Madrid have dropped from a five-point lead over Barcelona to a four-point deficit. In just over a month, all of this has taken place.
Alonso is in a precarious situation as a result of the loss to Celta, the team’s bad attitude, the tumultuous last few minutes, and the way they played all night.
One obvious conclusion emerged from the conversation, which went well into the morning: Alonso’s last opportunity is against Manchester City.
The Basque coach’s firing was already a possibility. Internal discussions before the Athletic Club game a week ago mentioned a seven-day, three-match final exam that included the games against Athletic Club, Celta, and Man City.
Jürgen Klopp and Zidane among options to replace Alonso
It has been one victory and one loss thus far. Still, the collapse against the Galician team infuriated several senior officials, who wanted to fire Alonso immediately before Wednesday night’s game against Pep Guardiola’s team.
Ultimately, the club administration decided to hold Xabi until Wednesday despite divergent opinions. In fact, according to the source, Real Madrid are already looking for a successor. Jürgen Klopp and Zinedine Zidane are at the top of the list.
Zidane commands respect in the locker room, has two successful periods at the club, and is familiar with the organisation. The Real Madrid icon may make a comeback while he waits to take over the French national team.
Regarding Klopp, he is currently working as Head of Football for the Red Bull group after leaving Liverpool last year. Therefore, it is unclear if he would consider going back to football management.
Will Xabi Alonso get sacked?
According to reports, if he loses against Man City, he could be sacked.
Who could replace Alonso?
Jürgen Klopp or Zinedine Zidane could replace Alonso.
Where are Real in the LaLiga table?
They are four points behind league leaders Barcelona.
