Los Blancos are now second in LaLiga.

Real Madrid travel to Girona in the hope of winning the game and returning to the top of the table tonight. They will benefit from the return of German defender Antonio Rüdiger, following a two-month absence due to a hamstring injury.

Coach Xabi Alonso also informed reporters on Saturday that fellow centre defender Eder Militao, who sustained a muscle injury earlier this month, will be making a comeback.

Real Madrid injury update

Asencio, a defender, was substituted off the pitch during a midweek Champions League 4-3 victory over Olympiakos due to hamstring pain. While due to a groin ailment, midfielder Mastantuono hasn’t played since early November. But two deenders are back for the Los Blancos.

“We’ve got Antonio Rudiger and Eder Militao back. We’ll wait until tomorrow with (Raul) Asencio. (Dean) Huijsen isn’t ready yet, we’re waiting. (Franco) Mastantuono is also in the squad,” Alonso said.

Alonso stated that Real would be able to sustain their winning momentum heading into tonight’s match thanks to the recovery of injured players. Real Madrid are two points behind title rivals Barcelona, who won 3-1 against Alaves on Saturday.

“We need a win to keep adding three more points if we want to stay up there. That’s the goal,” he said. “If we want to get to May… with a chance of competing for everything, we have to be really connected on a day-to-day basis.”

“We have good communication and connection… we’re very solid from within.”

It will be intriguing to observe how the manager handles the situation and whether he includes both Militao and Rudiger in the starting lineup or substitutes one of them for Alvaro Carreras, who filled in as a centre back against Olympiacos in the middle of the week.
