The midfielder will buy a minority stake in the club.

Luka Modric is expected to acquire a minority stake in Swansea City, an EFL Championship team. According to reports, an agreement has been reached for the 39-year-old Real Madrid icon to purchase stock in the Welsh team.

It is currently unknown how much he is spending on the Swans and how much the investment will cost. However, he is not yet ready to hang up his boots, and the purchase will not affect his current playing career.

Real Madrid are currently considering whether to extend the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner’s contract, which expires this summer.

Modric will become a co-owner of Swansea alongside Jason Cohen, Brett Cravatt, Nigel Morris, and Andy Coleman.

After eight years in charge, Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan sold their 74.95 per cent stake in the club. The ownership changed in November.

When American billionaire Coleman took over the club, he made a “new era” guarantee.

He stated that his goal was to get Swansea back into the Premier League after they were relegated from the top division in 2018.

Coleman asserted that in order to increase revenue, they must be a “Championship club not doing Championship things”.

“We hopefully have the ability to reach out across the aisle to our supporters and to rebuild their trust and to work together on this fresh start here.

“We want to build a sustainable football club that eliminates a lot of the risks of the ever-changing economics of football.

“And obviously I’m a dreamer by nature, we all want to get back to the Premier League, but we want to get there in the right way so that we can sustain that when we get there.”

With four games left in the season, Swansea are now eight points outside of the playoffs in 12th place in the Championship table.

After Luke Williams was fired in March, they are now without a permanent manager, with Alan Sheehan serving as an interim manager.
