Real Madrid want to sign a defender to reinforce their backline.

Real Madrid are still keeping an eye on former Manchester City centre-back Aymeric Laporte, and as per reports in Spain, the Los Blancos plans to sign the player in the winter transfer window.

Madrid are looking to add more depth to their backline as defender David Alaba is yet to make a comeback from his injury.

The Spanish club is left with only Antonio Rudiger and Eder Militao, while Aurélien Tchouameni has been used as a makeshift centre-back.

Jesus Vallejo has also received some minutes but his poor performance has seen Carlo Ancelotti depend on Rudiger and Militao.

Now Madrid feels they need an upgrade at the back as injury to their current starters could be a massive issue for Ancelotti. Laporte has been seen as an ideal signing by the club and now they could plan a transfer in the upcoming winter window.

Laporte who spent most of his playing time at Man City, joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr but he could consider a move back to Europe. Given he was instrumental in Spain’s win in Euro 2024.

Alaba’s recovery has taken a big toll as his injury has slowed down his progress and it still remains to be seen how long it will take the Austrian to recover from the ACL injury.

Laporte would prove to be a great option for the Los Blancos, he has all the experience playing at the top level and will be a great purchase for Ancelotti.

It was believed that Ancelotti gave the green light to the club to bring the former City’s centre-back in the summer, hence, the club will welcome his acquisition if they are to seriously consider acquiring him in January.

Real Madrid will be back in action this Sunday against their fierce rivals FC Barcelona in the El Clasico, who sit first on the table and are three points ahead of them.
