Real Madrid player Raul Asencio could face prison for allegedly sharing video of minor: Report

The centre-back has been accused of sharing a video of a minor.

In connection with a case involving child sex abuse, Spain’s Public Prosecutor’s Office has recommended a two-and-a-half-year sentence for Raul Asencio.

The defender for Real Madrid is charged with distributing a recording of a minor. “Two former Real Madrid youth players had consensual sexual intercourse with a minor and another girl and recorded images without their consent,” according to a summary from the prosecutor’s office that was given to The Athletic.

Asencio could be handed prison for posting a video of a minor

According to Article 77 of the Spanish Criminal Code, it is alleged that Asencio requested the aforementioned recordings and showed them to a friend despite not having participated in the sexual activity. This would be considered two offences against privacy.

According to the summary, Asencio is required to pay €5,000 to each of the claimed victims, who are reportedly suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. Three other players may also be subject to jail time.

The case concerns a 2023 event that happened at a Gran Canaria beach club. In September 2023, Ferran Ruiz, Juan Rodriguez, and Andres Garcia – the other three players – were taken into custody. Asencio was first called to testify as a witness before becoming involved in the inquiry.

At the time, the Guardia Civil stated that “a complaint about the alleged broadcasting of a private video via WhatsApp” was the subject of the probe.

Madrid centre-back denies such an act

In response to an inaccurate court document that was later amended to clarify that he faces just one accusation of uploading a sex tape involving a minor, Asencio stated in a statement in May 2025:

“I have not participated in any behaviour that violated the sexual freedom of any woman, much less of minors. The court order, as far as I am concerned, limits its content to the possible momentary viewing of some images by a third party, without attributing to me any participation in their recording or dissemination.”
