Real Madrid win record sixth UEFA Super Cup title by defeating Atalanta 2-0

Debutant Kylian Mbappe scored his first goal for Madrid.
Real Madrid have been crowned UEFA Super Cup winner for the record sixth time. They have become the first club to win on most occasions after beating Atalanta 2-0 in the final.
In May, Atalanta overcame Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 to set up a thrilling matchup with Los Blancos for the UEFA Super Cup in August. Los Blancos easily defeated Bundesliga powerhouse Borussia Dortmund 2-0 to win a record-making 15th Champions League title in the 2023–2024 campaign.
Atalanta, the victors of the Europa League, were playing in their first-ever UEFA Super Cup under the direction of Gian Piero Gasperini.
However, despite the Super Cup final, much of the spotlight was on new signing Kylian Mbappe. Mbappe was given the nod in the starting line against the Italian club. The former Paris Saint-Germain did not disappoint on his debut for the Madrid club.
Mbappe teamed up with exceptional players Vinicius and Rodrygo in the attack for Real Madrid in his first competitive match of the season. England playmaker Jude Bellingham, who controlled the game from the middle of the pitch, had an assist to his name for the second goal.
Mbappe produced an excellent strike to give Real a 2-0 cushion in the 68th minute. Federico Valverde had already broken the deadlock in the 59th minute. A proud moment for retired Toni Kroos, whose number now is on Valverde’s back.
The Frenchman Mbappe, having finally joined his dream club, had an excellent debut with a goal to his name. Real Madrid are now the record winners of the UEFA Super Cup. After this game, Los Blancos will prepare for their first game of the LaLiga 2024-25 season against Mallorca.
Real Madrid will be defending LaLiga this season after lifting the title last campaign. The club are already starting the new term with a trophy and have one of the top squads in Europe.
Real have assembled another Galacticos. It will be interesting to see how far the club will go this 2024-25 season given they now have the likes of Mbappe, Vinicius Jr, Arda Guler and Rodrygo in their attacking line.
