Real Madrid rule out Sergio Ramos return
Los Blancos lost Eder Militao to a knee injury against Osasuna.
Considering Eder Militao’s recent injury, Real Madrid still seem reluctant to lure Sergio Ramos back to the Santiago Bernabeu, but they do want Aymeric Laporte.
Following his ACL rupture during Real Madrid’s 4-0 victory over Osasuna on Saturday, Militao will miss the remainder of the 2024–25 season. After being carried off on a stretcher, it was announced that the Brazilian centre-back would be out for the next nine months.
Former Los Blancos star Guti had backed Ramos making the return to Santiago Bernabeu as a free agent after the Brazil defender was sidelined for the season. But AS claims the team are not thinking about bringing the renowned Spanish defender back.
The story goes on to say that because the 38-year-old hasn’t played professionally since leaving Sevilla at the end of the 2023–24 season, club management have severe concerns about his present level of fitness. Because of this, the Spanish champions consider this transfer to be “impossible”. They will wait until January to recruit a new player rather than signing a free agent now.
Madrid lost plenty of star players against Osasuna and their injury issues continue to grow. It could hinder their hopes of defending LaLiga this season if their injury woes don’t stop.
Ancelotti’s side will have to look for the signing of a new centre-back as they are now left with fewer options. Antonio Rudiger remains the only first-choice defender in the team.
Instead of signing Ramos, Real Madrid are considering a move for Laporte, a teammate of Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr, whom they had contemplated signing during the summer. The former Manchester City player is currently the team’s top target for the January transfer window.
Following the international break, Carlo Ancelotti’s team will play in LaLiga against Leganes on November 24 and in the UEFA Champions League against Premier League leaders Liverpool on November 27.
