Real Madrid announce squad numbers for 2024-25 season; Kylian Mbappe to wear no 9

Many players have been given new jersey numbers for next season.

Kylian Mbappe’s debut season at Real Madrid will see him wear the no. 9 shirt, the club have revealed. The European champions have also disclosed that next Tuesday at noon, Mbappe will be formally introduced to the supporters at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

For the most part of his time at Paris Saint-Germain, Mbappe wore the no. 7 jersey. In Real Madrid, Brazilian winger Vinicius Junior presently wears it. Mbappe, meanwhile, was France’s no. 10 at Euro 2024—a position that Luka Modric has held at the Bernabeu since 2017.

Spain eliminated France from Euro 2024 on Tuesday night in the semi-finals. Madrid had held off on making a formal announcement about Mbappe’s debut until after his Euros participation ended.

“Real Madrid C. F. is pleased to announce that Kylian Mbappe will be presented at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium on Tuesday, July 16 at noon,” the team said in a statement released on Wednesday afternoon.

Real Madrid‘s 2024–25 season squad numbers have been made public. The number nine shirt, which has been worn by Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and the late Alfredo Di Stéfano, will be worn by Kylian Mbappé.

Federico Valverde will now don the number eight shirt left behind by departed player Toni Kroos. Aurélien Tchouaméni (14), Eduardo Camavinga (6), and Arda Güler (15), the hero of Turkey at Euro 2024, also have new numbers.
