Life is a gamble: Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe talks about relationships

The Frenchman feels it gets complicated when someone is his girlfriend.

The Real Madrid and France star clarified why he is still unmarried, saying it is “complicated being Kylian Mbappe’s girlfriend.”

Protecting his private life from the public glare has been a priority for the World Cup winner. That means making sure there wasn’t a lot of conjecture about his romantic life. Rather, the 26-year-old has chosen to keep his work as his top priority.

As one of the most recognisable athletes in the world, Kylian Mbappe has talked about the difficulties of forming a relationship. To L’Equipe Magazine, he said:

“Everyone builds their life differently. I did it thinking that football was my whole life, and that I wanted to make the most of my career. Maybe I’m wrong… Maybe I’m right. Only the future will tell me, or God in due time. When you choose things, the result is easy to accept.

“It comes down to the fine line between paranoia and vigilance. Some people want to harm you, but that’s not everyone. You shouldn’t overthink it and just jump in. That applies to everyone. Are you married? How did you decide she was the one? You do everything you can to make it work, but how do you guess the obvious?

Kylian Mbappe went on to say of trying to find the right partner in difficult circumstances: “Life is a gamble. They often say that it succeeds for the bold, so you have to try. What’s hard in football can be facing the gaze of others.

“There’s something called ego, and some people are afraid of making a mistake. I met the wrong person and the whole world saw it! No, it can happen. The guy next door, who’s not famous, has already met the wrong person. It’s mostly about accepting that I’m wrong. And if I’m wrong, I get back up.”

Kylian Mbappe has scored three league goals in as many LaLiga games for Real Madrid in his second season at the Santiago Bernabeu, giving him a strong start to the 2025–26 season. With 52 goals for Les Bleus, he has also surpassed Thierry Henry to become the second-highest scorer for the French national team.
