The 2026 FIFA World Cup, football’s most prestigious title, is in its final preparation. The tournament will feature a record 48 teams instead of the traditional 32.
The competition will be co-hosted by the USA, Mexico and Canada. This expansion has resulted in total matches going from 94 to 104, with each game ultimately paving the way towards the coveted trophy.
Clubs are set to play a crucial role in the tournament, with players selected based on their domestic performance. A club will receive $11,000 per day for each player participating in the World Cup. It means a side is set to receive a minimum of $150,000 for a player even if they get eliminated in the group stages.
Real Madrid are one of the clubs to benefit from the payment structure. The Spanish giants had an abysmal season, failing to win any trophies, paired with a hostile internal environment. However, it has not had any effect on the pitch, with several players recording career-best performances.
Real Madrid Players Playing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup
The squad will have 11 players featuring in the World Cup, becoming the second most represented Spanish side, only behind FC Barcelona. The call-ups have also led to massive controversies. The 2026 edition is the first time to feature no Real Madrid players in the Spain national team for a World Cup.
Despite such a shocking decision, several key squad players are getting the deserved call-up elsewhere. One of the key additions was Arda Güler to the Turkey national team. The youngster struggled for minutes initially during the season,
However, the player managed to make an impressive turnaround in the season, winning the UEFA Champions League Young Player of the Season.
Another major inclusion was star striker Kylian Mbappé. The Frenchman had an excellent season, managing 48 G/A from 44 appearances. It earned him the UEFA Champions League top scorer award and the Real Madrid player of the year.
