Los Blancos are looking to reinforce their defence.

According to the Athletic, Vitor Reis, a centre-back for Palmeiras, is a target for Real Madrid and Arsenal.

Prior to a possible formal approach, both teams are said to have inquired about the 18-year-old’s club and representatives. Nevertheless, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Barcelona may present competition.

With plans to retain him until after the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, Reis, who has captained Brazil at the under-17 level twelve times, signed a new deal with the Alviverde in the summer that guarantees his continued service until December 2028.

It is thought that the Brazilian Serie A team have not yet set a valuation for him. An offer of €100 million might trigger a release clause in his contract.

With only two central defenders on hand for Carlo Ancelotti: Antonio Rüdiger and Éder Militão, Real Madrid’s need for a center-back is evident. After suffering a knee injury in December 2023, David Alaba is still recuperating.

Meanwhile, Dani Carvajal who has often operated as centre-back is also ruled out for the entire season after suffering an ACL injury.

Gabriel and William Saliba continue to be Arsenal‘s best duo at the back. Meanwhile, Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori are more than capable of filling in if Arteta wishes to switch up his defence, which will provide limited chances to Reis.

Given that Arsenal’s defenders are practically invincible in terms of starting roles, Reis would have an easier time making an impression at Real Madrid if he so desired.

He can be handed first-team football at Los Blancos which will also help him settle into the league quickly. If he ends up impressing at the top level he is likely to become an integral part of the club.

Reis has been likened to defender Marquinhos of Paris Saint-Germain and Madrid’s Militão. But expect Real to face competition from other big sides such as Chelsea, Barcelona, and Liverpool.
