Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham undergoes shoulder surgery; set to miss three months of action

The midfielder was suffering from a lingering shoulder problem.

Jude Bellingham, a midfielder star for Real Madrid and England, has undergone successful surgery to address a chronic shoulder condition. The operation was carried out by doctors Manuel Leyes and Andrew Wallace, under the supervision of the Real Madrid Medical Services, the club confirmed recently.

The 22-year-old is anticipated to miss at least the first six weeks of the season, including England’s September World Cup qualifying matches against Serbia and Andorra, as well as the entirety of Real Madrid’s preseason.

When did Bellingham suffer the shoulder injury?

Since dislocating his shoulder during a game against Rayo Vallecano in November 2023, Bellingham has battled the issue. Real Madrid stated that before he resumes training, he will now go through a recovery phase.

In June, Jude Bellingham informed reporters that he was “tired of playing with the sling” despite wearing strapping on his shoulder.

It was only after Real Madrid lost to Paris St-Germain in the semi-finals of the Club World Cup last week in the United States, Real booked his operation for after the tournament.

How has Bellingham fared since joining Madrid?

Two years ago, Madrid paid £115 million to sign the player from Borussia Dortmund. In his inaugural campaign, he scored 23 goals in 43 games and won both the LaLiga title and the Champions League.

Last season, he produced 15 goals in 58 games, but Real Madrid lost the league title to Barcelona and was eliminated by Arsenal in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

How many games is Jude Bellingham expected to miss for Madrid?
