Los Blancos will start under the new Champions League format against Stuttgart.

Incumbent champions Real Madrid’s opponents in the league phase of the 2024–25 UEFA Champions League include Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund.

Last season, Carlo Ancelotti’s team defeated Dortmund in the final to win the title. They even won the LaLiga trophy.

Including the UEFA European Cup, Los Blancos have won fifteen total Champions League titles, making them the most dominant club in Champions League history.

In 2024-25, Carlo Ancelotti will compete in UEFA’s newly extended competition in an attempt to win his sixth managerial championship. Real Madrid have to make it through the league phase, which takes the place of the more conventional group stage this season, in order to do this.

This season’s Champions League is different primarily because there is a new ‘league phase’ in place of the group stage. There are 36 clubs instead of 32 competing.

All 36 clubs are arranged into one big league for the competition’s first phase. Eight teams total—four at home and four away—will face a club in this competition. Winning teams will receive three points, while tied teams will receive one.

Teams that place among the top eight in the league phase will automatically advance to the Round of 16, while teams who place between ninth and twenty-fourth will need to play in a playoff to advance to the knockout phase. The teams from the 25th ranking onwards will be eliminated.
