The Portuguese called himself the most complete player in an interview.
Ronaldo Nazario has listed numerous players who might be regarded as the greatest and is unimpressed by Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent claim to be the greatest of all time (GOAT).
Ronaldo deemed himself the greatest player of all time. The forward even feels he is better than greats like Pele, Lionel Messi, and Diego Maradona. In addition to winning a European Championship with Portugal, the Portuguese great has won innumerable titles with Real Madrid and Manchester United.
In his extraordinarily successful career, he has also scored 925 goals and is currently playing for Al-Nassr, a Saudi Pro League team, at the age of 40.
Ronaldo Nazario told ESPN: “I don’t really like to get into this, I think people have too much self-esteem. I prefer people to talk about what I did and who I was rather than talking about myself. Cristiano Ronaldo has a fantastic story, he won everything, scored goals in every possible way. He is definitely among the best in history. Now, I don’t agree with the best. But I respect his opinion… I would say he is easily in the top 10.
“Pelé number 1 without a doubt, Messi and Maradona tied together, Zico, Romário, Cristiano Ronaldo, [Marco] Van Basten, [Zinedine] Zidane, [Luis] Figo, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho Gaúcho, a series of players, there are many great players on this list, and I’m sure I’m forgetting some. Every time someone asks me about this ranking, I make a different list. Only these first three are definitive.”
Naturally, Cristiano Ronaldo’s claim to be the greatest of all time has already sparked a lot of discussion. Along with Lionel Messi’s Argentina teammate Nahuel Molina, Inter Miami manager Javier Mascherano has also expressed disagreement.
Karim Benzema, a former striker for Real Madrid, has also expressed his opinion that Ronaldo Nazario is the greatest player the world has ever seen. In response to a question about Ronaldo’s claim to be the greatest of all time, the Brazilian icon listed the players he believes to be the greatest in history.
(Brazilian) Ronaldo’s remarks are unlikely to be warmly received by his Portuguese namesake, who is in the latter stages of his career yet still is on the hunt for trophies in Saudi Arabia.
Cristiano Ronaldo hasn’t won any major silverware with Al-Nassr yet, and winning a league title this season appears to be challenging. With one more game played, Ronaldo’s team is currently eight points below leaders Al-Ittihad.
