The Danish striker has only two goals Premier League this term

As Rasmus Hojlund strives to live up to his £72 million price tag, an unsatisfied Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has placed him “on trial”, reports suggest.

Hojlund has struggled in the Premier League since the club from Atalanta in the summer of 2023. In 28 games in all competitions this term, he has only managed seven goals, with just two of those goals coming in the Premier League.

Furthermore, he has also gone eight games in the top division without scoring a goal after failing to score in the Red Devil’s recent victory over Fulham. Hojlund has continued to receive frequent starts in spite of his lack of goals.

He still has three years left on his Old Trafford contract. However, it now seems that manager Amorim is getting ready to let go of the 21-year-old, who is moving into a last-chance in his United career.

“Effectively, Hojlund has been put on trial.” The Danish international has left Amorim “far from convinced,” and the attacker will have the remainder of the campaign to prove his worth, reports suggest.

Juventus and Napoli showing interest in Rasmus Hojlund

Among the teams currently keeping an eye on his condition are Juventus and Napoli. It’s anticipated that United will have to take a “significant hit” to the £72 million they paid for Hojlund if he fails his “trial” and they opt to sell.

United’s victory at Craven Cottage on Sunday was just another dreadful day for the Danish striker. He just had one pass made in Fulham’s box, completed only 67% of his passes, and—most awful of all—did not attempt a single shot.

Hojlund has already played a season at United and should have started showing signs of adapting at the club. Still, so far he has been lacklustre in front of the goal which has raised serious concerns about whether the 21-year-old will be able to improve his game.

United might look for a new No.9 if the Portuguese coach isn’t convinced by Hojlund by the end of the season as another striker Joshua Zirkzee has also been struggling to score goals.
