Sadio Mane: List of trophies & individual honours
The Senegalese forward has won three different league titles
On 10th April 2024, Sadio Mane turned 32. Fans will undoubtedly pause to savour the incredible moments he has created, and others will reflect on how swiftly he ascended from relative obscurity to become one of the greatest players in the world.
In terms of Mane’s development, one day in particular stands out as the most significant, providing an enlightening peek into his eventual brilliance.
Mané started his playing days at the young age of 19 with the Ligue 2 team Metz. However, he left after just one season to sign for the €4 million Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg in 2012, where he won the domestic cup and league titles in the 2013–14 campaign.
Mané moved to Southampton, an English team, later that summer for a club record £11.8 million. There, in a 6-0 victory over Aston Villa in 2015, he scored the quickest hat-trick in Premier League history in just 176 seconds.
At the point of his estimated £34 million signing in 2016, Mané was the most expensive African player in history when he joined Liverpool.
Following the departure of productive midfielder Philippe Coutinho, he created a powerful attacking combination with Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah. This trio enabled the team to capture the UEFA Champions League in 2019 and go to back-to-back finals in the competition. Additionally, he won the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2018–19 season after finishing as the league’s joint-top goalscorer.
Then, when Liverpool won the 2019–20 Premier League, Mané contributed to ending the club’s thirty-year league title drought. He became the third African to score a goal in the Premier League with his 100th goal in October of 2021.
Since making his international debut for Senegal in 2012, Mané has scored 43 goals in 107 games. He currently holds the record for both the most goals scored and most games for his country. He competed for Senegal at the 2012 Olympics and the Africa Cup of Nations in 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023.
Mané led Senegal to a second-place result in the 2019 competition, and he was named African Footballer of the Year the following year. Mané won the Player of the Tournament award after scoring the game-winning kick in the penalty shootout to give Senegal its first-ever Africa Cup of Nations victory in the 2021 final. He won the African Player of the Year award twice, in 2022 and 2022.
