MLS's San Diego closing in on signing Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne: Report

The Belgian will become a free agent after the end of the season.
When Kevin De Bruyne’s contract with Manchester City expires at the end of the current campaign, he is expected to depart.
The MLS‘s newest team, San Diego, are making good headway in its chase of the Belgium sensation. The Cityzens midfielder has established himself as one of the best in the game and has had an incredible career at Etihad Stadium.
San Diego are making headway in negotiations to sign Kevin De Bruyne, a legend of Manchester City. At the end of the current campaign, the Belgian midfielder is likely to be departing the Etihad, capping an incredible 10-year career with the City that has seen him win 14 major titles.
San Diego led the race for De Bruyne last year, and they still are, even if the Saudi Pro League is quite interested. De Bruyne, who turns 34 this summer, is reportedly nearing finalizing negotiations to relocate to California.
As they prepare for their inaugural season in Major League Soccer, San Diego have put together their new team and left one of their three Designated Player spots open. San Diego’s first game of the season is against LA Galaxy on Monday.
Compared to previous seasons, this one has been quiet for the Belgium international star. In 17 appearances, he has only contributed six Premier League assists and a few goals. Moreso his performances have been hindered by injury concerns.
He has demonstrated leadership in prior campaigns by being decisive in both scoring and creating. With 20 assists for Man City in the 2020–21 season, De Bruyne share the record for most assists in a Premier League season with Thierry Henry.
Charles De Ketelaere, a star for Atalanta, is being considered as a possible successor for De Bruyne as Man City prepare for his departure.
With a predicted transfer price (ETV) of €42.2 million, the 23-year-old was formerly linked to Arsenal as the “Dutch Ibrahimovic.”
