San Diego emerge as potential destination for Kevin De Bruyne next summer
The Belgian midfielder prefers a move to MLS.
According to reports, Kevin De Bruyne is interested in moving to the United States and may depart Manchester City at the end of the current campaign.
Man City have not yet begun negotiations with the Belgian international to extend his contract, which is scheduled to expire at the end of the current campaign.
Currently, De Bruyne will have the opportunity to begin pre-contract negotiations with international teams from January 1st in preparation for a possible free move in the summer of next year.
Saudi Pro League clubs have expressed a great deal of interest in De Bruyne, but according to insiders, they “fear” that he would move to Major League Soccer.
De Bruyne has told all of his potential suitors that, as of right now, he and his family would want to land in the United States when he departs City.
Although he has contributed significantly to City’s success in recent years, the 33-year-old has struggled to get minutes this season. He has only made seven Premier League starts thus far under Pep Guardiola.
Given De Bruyne’s lack of participation, City might decide not to renew his contract. The Premier League’s top salary earner makes £400,000 per week. The club are reluctant to renew his contract for that mammoth salary again.
The team vying for De Bruyne at the moment is San Diego FC. The new team from California will start playing in the Major League Soccer league in 2025.
De Bruyne is at the top of San Diego’s shortlist because they want to make an exciting first signing for their fans. They would like to formally pre-agree with the attacking midfielder prior to their first competitive match on February 24th against LA Galaxy.
Representatives from San Diego have already been in touch with De Bruyne’s agents, and those familiar with the matter say that the discussions are “positive.”
But there is a lot of competition to sign De Bruyne. Inter Miami are another MLS team that want to add another superstar to their roster after having already signed players like Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Sergio Busquets.
